Google mobile OS Android has announced its latest upgrade Android 2.2 yesterday at Google’s I/O development conference. The OS now 7th upgrade since it launched in September 2008 and will finally bring Adobe Flash to smartphone browsing.

Resource heavy Flash has been questioned by smartphone manufacturers particularly Apple for a while now, but Google claims to have mastered processor speed, battery life & browsing experience. Processor speed on the new OS is supposed to be up to 5x of Android 2.1 and lets be fair that was a big step up already. The 2.2 upgrade should be available for the Nexus One, Milestone/Droid, HTC Desire, Legend and some of the newer HTC Heroes.

With now over 50,000 apps on Android Marketplace (12,000 alone last month) Google is still off Apples Apps Store, but expanding at a staggering pace. The new Android OS also features more flexibility that allows app developers to decide where their apps can be stored, phone or the SD card. A vision Apple should have a look at as it might crush its restrictive handsets.

Froyo, the nicknamed Android 2.2, will further tab into the corporate market by offering exchange compatibility, syncing calendars and various security features.

So time to start getting excited about the new OS and rise of the smartphone wave. Get ready, soon you won’t need a desktop pc any more.
