April saw Google Maps Navigation for Android come to the UK and Europe is coming soon. The latest beta just out of labs is a serious contestant for the TOMTOM SatNav devices out there and what’s really interesting is the price-point, free. Well that is given you have one of the latest smartphones running on Google’s Android operating system.

When we tested it on the Milestone (Droid) by Motorola we were impressed how seamlessly Streetview was integrated and add a whole new dimension to GPS navigation. Not only is it fully operable through Voice control, but it of course features the breadth of Googles search algorithm. So if you are not sure where that exhibition is in town or where your favorite band is playing tonight just let Google Navigation take care of it. You simple speak the name of the exhibition and Google will tell you which Museum it’s at. Another level of navigating in your car, bike(cycle) and even walking.

Headphone connected Google Navigation tells you where to turn and shows you exactly what that corner looks like. The only thing you can be sure of happening shortly is that free will become ad funded and although we sure hope Google will abide by traffic laws, new distractions will require further legislation to keep up with the possibilities to monetize this brilliant piece of tech.

Enjoy it free while it lasts and imagine what else is soon to come.
