Finaly figured out how to get the motorola milestone 2.2 Android Froyo update on mz German Milestone (GM). This is increadible, not only was it promised in Q4 2010, but also did Motorola have us jump through hoops to get it. No auto update here my friends.

After getting frustrated with a few web suggested root processes to instal the new ROM, where some promised the gingerbread update 2.3, we eventually ended up leaving the mac behind and move over to the windows machine to install Motorola’s fairly inflexible Software Update helper. This however was straight fwd.

A few minutes of instal later 2.2 was successfully instaled on my milestone. HEre are the steps how to update
1. Download .exe file and instal on your local machine.
2. Connect motorola milestone with usb to the PC
3. Launch the motorola software update application
4. Follow steps of update wizzard (make sure both phone and internet are connected at this point)
5. Check for software updates
6. If new software is found (e.g. Android 2.2) the wiyyard will flag this
7. Confirm download and wait appr. 20min for instal to run on your phone
8. Phone will restart and launch with th updated software. First thing you will notice is the new unlock icons.
9. Go to your settings to confirm update (Home screen - settings - about phone - Firmware version should now say 2.2.1 (which is Froyo)
10. Done, enjoy froyo and wait for an update on gingerbread ;( hopefully this will be straight fwd.

As we have just successfully installed please wait for a review of androids new operating system, coming soon.

However, we can say Adobe Flash is working just fine. THe main other advantages seems to be some serious speed management and a far easier to use updated keyboard. Also homescreen etc are more flexible but no other major layout changes.

Use LauncherPro UI, which gives you the look and feel of the nexus one and put some nice social media widget in there like facebook, twitter and a great people widget, where you can select friends to call by image.
