Gamelayer ontop of the world – Seth Piebatsch TEDTalk

Now that social media has opened the floodgates to communication on the world wide web and our online communities are growing stronger and more involved. Now that we can update a million people through a simple web application on our mobile phones, whenever and wherever we are in the world at almost no cost… and still we haven’t found a way to leverage these incredible advances into something we can truly utilise in our daily lives for something significantly other than (let’s be honest) recreational use. Sure social media is super hyped right now in every other media agency around town, but how do you really get your message across in such a fragile, segmented and fast paced environment. Seth suggests to build what he calls the game layer on top of our existing social networks to truly use mobile, real time and Geo-targeted applications that aer build on siple gaming concepts that appealed to humans for centuries. In his TED Talk he reveals 4 of his 7 basic concepts such as timekeeping for medical use, level-up rather than punishment concepts and happy hour sales theories. Very entertaining talk from this young Princeton dropout slash Silicon Valley entrepreneur. Watch this space.
